Lake Wanaka Reflections

new Zealand oil painting artist jane sinclair

About

Lake Wanaka and Hawea were formed by glacial systems that extended down from the Southern alps and filled the valley. There are many trails and hikes around Wanaka allowing visitors to experience the panoramas from all angles. It is a picturesque alpine town, home to around 10,000 permanent residents.

Artist’s word

What these paintings mean to me, why I do them.. The hills and mountains surrounding Wanaka change dramatically throughout the seasons. There can be spots of bright red bracken, dry grasses, cold blue shadows and snow-capped peaks. I find it mesmerizing watching the changes at play. From time to time the lake will display stunning reflections, silky ripples blending the colours and creating unique reflections. I love to share this wonder with experimentation of color and bold shadows in my reflection series.
